How Trade Copying Works
The technical flow from leader trade to follower copy
Updated October 6, 2026
Every copy starts with a single trade on your master account. TradeCloner detects it the instant your broker confirms the fill and mirrors it to every follower. TradeCloner's own processing adds well under 100 ms. The rest is the broker's order handling.

The copy flow
- Leader places a trade on Tradovate, NinjaTrader, ProjectX or Rithmic
- Broker confirms the fill and sends a fill event over WebSocket
- TradeCloner detects it as soon as the broker reports the fill
- TradeCloner places copies on each follower via the broker REST API
- Copy confirmed. It appears in the Console Filled tab with its exact latency
Market orders
Market orders are the simplest. When the leader's market order fills, TradeCloner:
- Reads the symbol, action (Buy / Sell), quantity and fill price
- Multiplies the quantity by each follower's multiplier (1x-50x, set per follower)
- Places a Market order on every follower immediately
Limit and stop orders
Limit and stop orders are copied as pending orders:
- TradeCloner detects the working order via WebSocket
- Fetches the full order details (price, type, qty) via REST
- Places a matching limit / stop order on each follower
- Tracks it so a cancel on the master propagates to followers
When the leader's order fills, the follower's copied order fills naturally.
What triggers a copy
- A market order fill
- A limit order becoming active (Working status)
- A stop order becoming active
- An OCO bracket activating (after the entry fills)
Orders on accounts that aren't a group's master, or on a paused group, never trigger a copy.
