Follower Protection
Automatically keep followers in sync when the leader goes flat
Updated September 22, 2026
Follower Protection (FP) is your safety net. If a follower ever gets stuck in a position after your master has already exited, FP steps in and closes it, so you're never left holding a trade you thought you'd closed.

When does it trigger?
FP triggers when the master account's net position reaches 0 (goes flat) on any symbol. That can happen from:
- A market close order
- A limit order fill (take-profit hit)
- A stop order fill (stop-loss hit)
- A manual close
How it works
- The master goes flat (netPos = 0 on a symbol)
- TradeCloner waits for the configured delay (0.5-5 seconds, default 2s)
- It checks each follower's current position:
- Already flat. Nothing to do
- Still open. Sends ONE closing market order
The closing order
- Long position → Market Sell for the exact quantity held
- Short position → Market Buy for the exact quantity held
The quantity is based on what the follower actually holds, not the master's original size, so a partially-filled follower is closed correctly.
Configuring the delay
Set the FP delay in group settings (gear icon → Copy Settings → FP Delay). Choose from 0.5s, 1s, 2s, 3s, 4s or 5s.
2 seconds (the default) is recommended. It gives followers time to fill their own closing orders before FP intervenes.
Example
| Step | Master | Follower |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Opens 5 MNQ long | Opens 5 MNQ long |
| 2 | Closes 5, flat | Only 4 close (1 missed) |
| 3 | netPos = 0 | netPos = 1 (still open) |
| 4 | FP waits 2s | . |
| 5 | . | FP: Market Sell 1 MNQ |
| 6 | . | netPos = 0 |
